We are pleased to announce the sixth Masterclass in International Law taking place at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg from 15 to 18 May 2017. It will be led by Professor Joseph Weiler on the topic of “How to Read Decisions of the European Court of Justice”.

In the United States, he served as professor of law at the University of Michigan and as a chaired professor at Harvard Law School. Weiler’s research and teaching focus on international law, the law of the European Union and the WTO, and the interface between religion and law. Among his noted books are The Constitution of Europe, Un Europa Cristiana, and a novella, Der Fall Steinmann.
We are looking forward to exploring the case-law of the European Court of Justice (in particular: Hauer, Melloni, Opinion 2/13, Baumbast; Garcia Avello, Collins, Chen, Zambrano, Bosman) under the guidance of Professor Weiler, and also to discussing aspects across the entire range of his work during those four days.
